Reflective Writing 5

The fifth reflective writing will be due on Monday 11/1.

One reading regarding feminist approaches to popular culture comes from Susan Bordo.  The other readings are either by the Italian thinker Antonio Gramsci or about the influence of his ideas.  These are available as e-reserves on the Portland State library website.

The opening from the Simpsons, directed by the British street artist Banksy, is referenced as is a Vanguard editorial about the segment.  Also, if you haven’t seen Avatar and have been meaning to now might be a good time as we will be discussing the film during class next week.  Both of these examples illustrate the ideas of Gramsci as applied to popular culture.
