Syria, Facebook and the Zombie Apocalypse

A couple of links related to the course.

I came across this article today about how Syria is unbanning Facebook as a “gesture to the people”.  It is interesting to not in light of our conversation and recent events throughout the Arab world that Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites have been banned in Syria for the last five years.

A connection for the first section of the course comes in the form of this survival store in outer SE Portland.  This will connect to our week 9 discussion about the apocalypse in popular culture, specifically that relating to zombies.

Lastly, here is a link to the photographic work of Edward Burtynsky who I referenced during the Avatar lecture.
