For those that do not know who or what Harry Potter is, it is a book series created by J.K Rowling about a boy wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and they all attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main plot of the story is about Harry and his friends trying to defeat Lord Voldemort who killed Harry’s parents and is trying to take over the wizarding world. Later on the books were adapted to film and have now become some of the best selling, and highest grossing books and films in history.

Since the 1997 release of the first Harry Potter novel “Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and the 2001 release of the first film, it has gained extreme popularity. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold 72.1 million copies of the book worldwide, and 9 million of those copies sold in the U.S and Britain in the first 24 hours, and the Deathly Hallow movie taking in $330 million in just the first weekend alone.

Both the book and the movie process have taken about 10 years, with the first novel released in 1997, and the final book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” released in 2007, and the first film released in 2001 and the final film in the two part series set to be released in July of 2011.

When the final film is released that will be the end of the Harry Potter saga. There will be no more waiting in anticipation till midnight for the books and movies to be released. Many of us have grown up with these characters and will be sad when it is all over, but there may be hope for all the Potter fans. In a recent interview with Oprah J.K Rowling said “I could definitely write an eighth, a ninth book, “I think I am done, but you never know.”
